I love finding a new speakeasy and every time I am in a new city I try to seek one out, but this place puts two of my favourite things together; it’s a speakeasy AND a tiki bar 😍💯 I can’t recommend them enough, the food is super tasty and reasonably priced for a cocktail bar, the staff are extremely knowledgeable and trained, the vibes are so fun and different and there’s 3 different levels so you can easily spend hours here between the 3 locations! I came the first time during World Pride in 2023 and literally it lived rent free in my head for 2.5 years till I moved here and I wouldn’t stop talking about it to EVERYONE I met 😂🙈

What a truly well-spent night at Old Mate’s! Cocktails were absolutely delicious and the view was killer. A big thanks to Nacho for his amazing service and huge smile!

Fricking awesome! Staff are attentive and friendly. Welcoming and engaging… not to mention the cocktails are 11/10. Delicious- recommend the ‘Peter rabbit.’ Big shout out to Alex - super helpful. Give that man a pay rise.

I went in expecting it to be just another cocktail bar in Sydney but this place went above and beyond. Charles and Nacho the bartenders made our birthdays extra special and we felt like we made new friends as well. That kind of service and connection is so rare these days and old mates place is a little gem. Also a beautiful rooftop view. Highly recommend.

Great location in the heart of Sydney Friendly staff working the rooftop bar, with limited space with is the ambiance of the place. We were able to settle in at the bar. Otherwise wait time on a great day can be a while, but ha. If I was sitting, I'd keep drinking too 😜😁 We will be back, for sure 🍻

This place is stunning, tucked away in what initially feels like a run-down apartment building until you reach the 4th floor (take the lift lmao, I took the stairs) and open the bar’s front door and step into an absolutely stunning setting. Amazingly decorated with cute touches everywhere. And then we discovered the cocktails! Dare I say the best signature cocktails in Sydney. I need to go back ASAP and try them all. But what really makes this place a solid 5/5 is the incredible service we received from Chuckles. What an absolute legend. Super friendly, really helpful when it came to helping us decide what cocktails to choose and incredibly knowledgeable about each drink. Good service can be found all over Sydney but this guy took it to the next level. Thanks Chuckles & the rest of the team. I’ll be recommending this place to anyone I meet and I’ll definitely be back soon.

Cocktails and decor are very unique. The story behind each cocktail is great. The Baker's Dozen and Takes Two To Mango were great cocktails. I love the vibe and the music. We had the Devils Three Way Steak Sandwich which was amazing. Jakub was excellent at the bar. A must visit in Sydney.

What can I say? We found this hidden delight and was Stupendously Welcomed by Corky, Liam and Clancy. Great atmosphere, fine music and magical surroundings. Bar was a treat to the eyes and the roof bar was a delight to behold. Liam went out of his way to make us a couple of scrumprious non-alcoholic drinks.

The cutest secret bar. Quirky cocktails. I got the hidden pina colada. They brought out a book and said “I have some light reading to do” then I opened the book to a hip flask of pina colada. The bar has a roof top bar which is perfect for sunny days or inside it is a low light atmostphere bar.

What a beautiful discovery, we came to Sydney for our anniversary, and I had explored bars close to where we were staying. Old Mates was the last bar, we visited, and we were blown away by the atmosphere, the staff, whose care and attention to detail, and interaction with patrons was genuine and ultra friendly, which encouraged us to come back, for a subsequent visit, upon which we were greeted by our names. Highly recommend, though I would like to keep this bar a secret, we will return every time we visit Sydney for special occasions.
